AKÜ Department of Geological Engineering

History of the Department (Date of Establishment, Location, Development Process)

The Department of Geological Engineering was established in 2010 and began its educational activities by admitting its first students in the 2012–2013 academic year. The department graduated its first students at the end of the 2015–2016 academic year. Currently, 29 students are enrolled in the department, and a total of 15 graduates have completed their studies to date.

With its young and dynamic academic staff and steadily increasing momentum, the Department of Geological Engineering admitted its first Master’s degree students in the 2016–2017 academic year, thus initiating its thesis-based Master’s program. Since the 2019–2020 academic year, the department has also been offering doctoral (PhD) education.

The department consists of five sub-disciplines: General Geology, Mineralogy–Petrography, Ore Deposits and Geochemistry, Applied Geology, and Applied Geophysics. The academic staff includes 1 Professor, 1 Associate Professor, 4 Assistant Professors, and 1 Research Assistant.

The Department currently continues its education, training, and scientific research activities in the Engineering Faculty Building and Engineering Faculty Laboratories located on the Ahmet Necdet Sezer (ANS) Campus of our University. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, the academic staff of the department actively contribute to research activities within the Geothermal and Mineral Waters and Mineral Resources Application and Research Center (JUAM) and the Earthquake Application and Research Center (DUAM).
